HOW TO ACCLIMATE FISH

What Does It Mean To Acclimate Fish?
'Acclimating Fish' is allowing your fish to adjust from the temperature and water paremetres from the fish store, to your aquarium's temperature and water parametres.

Should I Acclimate My Fish?
Absolute. Acclimating your fish is extremely necessary to allow them to adjust to their new conditions. You can choose the quarantine your fish and then acclimate them into the aquarium or you could just acclimate them straight from the fish store. Not acclimating your fish could result in them dying of shock. The acclimation procedure is the same for all fish.

How To Acclimate Your New Fish

Step 1

If your aquarium light is on, turn it off as it will stress the fish. Remember that they are already stressed from being put into a bag and moved.

Step 2

Float the fish bag in your aquarium for 15 minutes. This allows the fish to adjust to the temperature in your tank.

Step 3

After 15 minutes, whilst the bag is still floating, open it up. Every 15 minutes, pour a 1/4 of a cup of water from your tank into the fish bag. Do this for an hour. This will alow your new fish to adjust to your water conditions.

Step 4

After an hour, net the fish out and into your tank. Do not pour any of the water from the fish bag into your tank. This might introduce diseases from the fish store.
